Monteith's is leading Australia's cider revolution....

Cider is set to explode in Australia! Already the coolest drink in Europe and the UK, Australian's can get ready for a new drink to dominate their local pubs and bottle shop fridges. A major surge in popularity is predicted as consumers shy away from the sugary sweet ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages and discover the taste and satisfaction of drinking a quality driven cider using natural ingredients.

The public perception of cider in the past has been poor due to a lack of premium quality selections locally, not representing what a fresh, sparkling cider is meant to taste like - amazing. New Zealand brewing icon Monteith's - renowned for its off-beat brewing prowess - has launched in Australia to lead the cider revolution. Monteith's new Crushed Apple Cider is brewed from sun-ripened Nelson fruit that gravitate from the province's many thousands of apple trees to the bottling line at the company's brewery in Greymouth.

"The cider market in Australia hasn't reached the tip of the iceberg as far as its potential here is concerned. I think the reason it has been slow to fall into line with other overseas markets is a lack of premium cider options available here. Monteith's has developed a 100 per cent New Zealand apple-sourced cider craft brewed with natural ingredients. It is this sort of quality product which I believe will see cider in Australia boom," says Monteith's brand manager Romy-Lee Wolman.

Apple cider is one of the fastest growing beverages around the world. In England about 650 million litres of cider is produced and the French produce just over 100 million litres. The British cider market is estimated at $2.4billion and with the drink enjoying unprecedented popularity in New Zealand-worth $4.5m a year and growing at nearly 13 per cent.

The numbers indicate they're right. Australia's AU$100 million-plus cider market is growing at 12.4 per cent a year, making it the fastest growing segment within the overall alcoholic drinks sector.

"Cider had an image problem caused in part by the cider traditionally available over here, containing low quality raw materials. We're introducing a product to alter this perception in Australia." States Romy, with the confidence that only a brand like Monteith's could secure.

Fresh sun-ripened New Zealand apples have been crushed to retain the fruit's natural flavours in Monteith's new Crushed Apple Cider. The apple juice is then patiently fermented to deliver a revitalising premium cider.

"Kiwis are keen on natural products that have a great taste - not products made from concentrates. It is going to catch on here once consumers get to try a cider that's the real deal, so to speak," she added.

"We felt it was time to raise the bar on cider. We felt people were looking for a better quality Cider and we have been developing a 100 per cent New Zealand apple-sourced Cider to meet their demands." added the brewers in New Zealand

Thanks to a combination of gravity and the great team at Monteith's Brewery in Greymouth, Cider fans have a reason to rejoice in a new refreshing drink for summer.
